The Privileges of Working Remotely…Can you let it go?

Last year when the pandemic started, most of us hated the lockdown and working from home. We hated not being able to meet people at the workplace or outside. We hated that we could not do so many things that we wanted to do so badly because of lockdown.

But guess what perspectives shift and today, I have been feeling quite differently about remote work and many of you would be able to relate to it.

Many of you would have realized that with work from home you are able to do so much more in a day. For me, it was a great self-reflection time, an opportunity to rebuild old habits to new ones, being around family more etc.

The best part is being able to connect to anyone around the world online that you never thought you would otherwise.

There are so many benefits that we have all had during this time!

More focus, less information overwhelm

With remote work, I feel the meetings have become more focused. The limited interaction has actually focused the meetings to a crisper and to the point agenda. While nothing can beat face to face interactions, limited interactions have actually helped in cutting down the noise. There is so much information which is unnecessary and we don’t need to know so much. In fact, you are more efficient when you have information that you really need.

More time

The commute time to the office has been cut down. The time spent travelling to fitness classes is down which would eat up my entire evening on weekends. Now, it’s just one hour or less because it’s all online. I have been able to utilize that time to do so many other things. Time is money. This has also been a time of realization on what truly matters to us.

Rebuild habits

The change of place was a blessing in disguise. So many of us went back home to our hometowns. You got a chance to redesign your habits. There are so many habits which are built based on the environment we stay in. With the change in environment it was an opportunity to rebuild them from scratch. Make better changes! And I am aware it wasn’t easy for most of us at the beginning.

Connect with people around the world

This is one of the best things. Being able to connect to people that I never thought I would otherwise if it was not for lockdown. Learning from the best people out there — artists, experts etc. would not have happened if things did not go online and live.

Work from anywhere

And the golden opportunity to work from anywhere you want to! You can work from a coffee shop or go to the hills or some co-working space!

Having said the above I know what you are thinking — maybe right now since we are working from home we are only seeing this side of the picture and when we get back to office we would feel the same again.

But I realize that there were so many things that we were doing because that’s how it has always been. Nobody questioned it. Nobody challenged the old ways. We were just going with the flow!

Lockdown or remote work was an opportunity (in disguise) to reimagine life from a new lens. And I feel we should take the best of both worlds to create something which enables us to do more in life, to think differently, to imagine things to be a different way which works best for us!
